As the labor market has tightened, employers in some sectors are advertising increased hours in new job listings in an apparent bid to attract workers.
On Indeed, US seasonal job postings through mid-September are 21% below last year’s level, but they are tracking or exceeding the levels in 2015 and 2016. This year’s slowdown primarily reflects a shortfall in seasonal postings for nonsales jobs. Seasonal openings might be lower this year because more of those jobs are becoming permanent, another sign of a strengthening job market.
