Key points:
- Although the number of Irish job postings on Indeed has fallen from a year ago, it remains 10% above February 2020 levels.
- Occupations including healthcare and education are among those where job postings are furthest above pre-pandemic levels, while several tech categories are among the laggards.
- Job posting levels in Dublin continue to underperform, partly reflecting Dublin’s greater exposure to slowdowns in tech and professional categories.
Irish job postings on Indeed have been broadly stable in recent months. As of 12 September, the Indeed Job Postings Index for Ireland — a real-time measure of employer demand — was down 7% from its level one year ago, though it remains 10% above its 1 February 2020, pre-pandemic baseline (seasonally adjusted). Hiring demand remains fairly solid despite ongoing uncertainty about the impact of the recent EU-US trade deal.

Sectoral strength varies
There continues to be considerable variation in demand for workers across occupational categories. Public sector-related occupations, including healthcare and education, feature prominently among those categories where job postings are furthest above pre-pandemic levels. Tech categories are among the laggards.

Dublin underperformance continues
Job posting levels in Dublin continue to lag other large counties and are now 15% below their pre-pandemic level. That’s partly a reflection of Dublin’s greater exposure to professional categories, which continue to perform relatively weakly. In the other four largest counties, postings remain above pre-pandemic levels.

Methodology
The Job Postings Index data is the percentage change in seasonally-adjusted job postings since February 1, 2020, using a seven-day trailing average. February 1, 2020, is our pre-pandemic baseline. A reading of 101 signifies the overall level of job postings is 1% higher than the level on February 1, 2020.
