Postings were 47% above the 1 February 2020, pre-pandemic baseline, seasonally adjusted, as of 18 March 2022. That\u2019s down slightly from 50% as of 18 February 2022. After many months of strong growth, postings appear to have plateaued at a high level. With <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/business-60699815\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">economic uncertainty rising<\/a>, employers may be taking their foot off the accelerator for now, though many organisations may still have substantial staffing gaps to fill after a period of challenging hiring conditions.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/SsfS-nHxKdj3ld7Yom_ZkywFxAgInooi0hMIPjutqvVC2q9u9PbVCRAtd6b2ahZZ2jC8I-CFlQIepxl18rCDYqSlvLOhbnPwh53_l633XjPnOdFoPxsyGT-Mti9ju9uoKrQ1nm5w\" alt=\"A line graph titled \u201cJob postings on Indeed UK\u201d\" \/><figcaption><em>A line graph titled \u201cJob postings on Indeed UK\u201d showing the percentage change in job postings on Indeed UK since 01 Feb 2020, to 18 Mar 2022. There was a 47% change in UK job postings on a seasonally adjusted basis over the period.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Wide variation in performance across categories&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Job posting recoveries have been highly uneven across occupational categories. In some, postings are at least double pre-pandemic levels, including cleaning &amp; sanitation, loading &amp; stocking, physicians &amp; surgeons and dental.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But a handful of categories stand below pre-pandemic levels, including legal, beauty &amp; wellness and childcare. Aviation postings are close to pre-pandemic levels, having picked up in recent weeks amid easing travel restrictions.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/TwgfiW8O_i6f7AWHA82LKTotJPk-_zRGT1tRKk93rZbOk1bR4yHai1QPV5hjptFpwyR3YHGEOpUqn1WcD4Tl3hoLWtDu4f6XW2VAYAYAm5CwkmG25K626pvriQoz_HxGtVhkTHbo\" alt=\"Table titled \u201cCleaning and warehousing strength.\u201d\" \/><figcaption><em>Table titled \u201cCleaning and warehousing strength.\u201d Indeed compared the percent change in UK job postings, between 01 February, 2020, and 18 March, 2022 across various occupations divided into sections \u201cbetter than economy average,\u201d \u201csimilar to economy average\u201d and \u201cworse than economy average\u201d. <\/em>The strongest performers were cleaning &amp; sanitation and loading &amp; stocking, while the weakest performers were legal and beauty &amp; wellness.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>North East has strongest regional recovery&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The North East continues to have the strongest regional recovery, with job postings 80% above the pre-pandemic baseline. Wakefield, Barnsley and Middlesbrough are furthest above the pre-pandemic baseline. Aberdeen, Southend and Aldershot have the weakest job postings recoveries.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As we discussed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hiringlab.org\/uk\/blog\/2021\/04\/22\/uk-job-posting-recovery-by-area\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a previous post<\/a>, posting recovery has generally been stronger in cities with higher shares of manufacturing, distribution and public sector jobs, while areas reliant on travel and tourism and highly paid, white-collar, work-from-home jobs trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/lh6.googleusercontent.com\/fFjS_6sSSj0f3A66-dVrqrw1pzCpBrnpcxP_VRQQFlPpKf8TgVjHIwoG_u---fJ8xvaPs4mS9IrbX_6tiPK-VQd4dXfqDEirSVDTyAuaI17bezQuX6AY2h2qgZp4_qfVxXLKtLSD\" alt=\"Table titled \u201cWakefield leads cities recovery.\u201d \" \/><figcaption><em>Table titled \u201cWakefield leads cities recovery.\u201d <\/em>This table shows the percentage change in job postings on Indeed UK since 01 Feb 2020, seasonally adjusted, to 18 Mar 2022.<em> Wakefield saw a 101% change, the largest, while Aberdeen saw the lowest % change at 10%.<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>We host the <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/hiring-lab\/data\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">underlying job-postings chart data on Github<\/a> as downloadable CSV files. Typically, it will be updated with the latest data one day after this blog post was published.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Methodology<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>All figures in this blog post are the percentage change in seasonally-adjusted job postings since 1 February, 2020, using a seven-day trailing average. 1 February, 2020, is our pre-pandemic baseline. We seasonally adjust each series based on historical patterns in 2017, 2018, and 2019. Each series, including the national trend, occupational sectors, and sub-national geographies, is seasonally adjusted separately. We adopted this new methodology in January 2021.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><em>The number of job postings on&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/indeed.com\/\">Indeed.com<\/a>, whether related to paid or unpaid job solicitations, is not indicative of potential revenue or earnings of Indeed, which comprises a significant percentage of the HR Technology segment of its parent company, Recruit Holdings Co., Ltd. Job posting numbers are provided for information purposes only and should not be viewed as an indicator of performance of Indeed or Recruit.
