Coronavirus and Irish Job Postings Through 16 October: Data from Indeed.ie

by

Job postings gap narrowed further last week, but new lockdown may spell end of recovery.

This post is updated as of 16th October 2020. We will continue to update these trends regularly as we track how coronavirus impacts the global labour market.

The recovery in job postings on Indeed Ireland continued last week. The gap to last year’s trend narrowed to -28% as of 16th October, from 29% the previous week. That was the tenth consecutive week of improvements. However, with Ireland having gone into a six-week lockdown this week, the job market faces stiff challenges.

Growth in social work, nursing and childcare

Some sectors are running above last year’s trend, notably community & social service, nursing and childcare. These sectors all posted further gains over the past month. Conversely, hospitality & tourism, beauty & wellness and food preparation & service continue to be hard-hit, having all weakened further over the past month.

Methodology

To measure the trends in total job postings, we calculated the 7-day moving average of the number of job postings on Indeed Ireland. We indexed each day’s 7-day moving average to the start of that year (1 February 2020 = 100 for 2020 data, and so on), or another date if specified on the chart.
