Coronavirus and Irish Job Postings Through July 10: Data from Indeed.ie

by

Job postings continue to run well below last year’s trend.

This post is updated as of 10 July 2020. We will continue to update these trends regularly as we track how coronavirus impacts the global labour market.

The job postings trend on Indeed Ireland continues to run well below last year’s levels. Overall postings were down -49% as of 10th July, the same pace of decline as seen in the previous two weeks. That’s a modest improvement from the nadir of -57% seen at the start of June, chiming with signs of positive movement in official labour market data, but still signals a sluggish pace of recovery.

Social work and nursing roles up but hospitality and restaurant jobs remain depressed

Sectoral data point to considerable variations. The community & social service category (of which social worker jobs are a major component) showed an +18% improvement on last year’s trend, while nursing jobs saw a +6% improvement. At the other end of the scale, hospitality & tourism (down -83%), food preparation & service (-76%), driving (-64%) and beauty & wellness (-63%) continue to run far below last year’s levels.

Methodology

To measure the trends in total job postings, we calculated the 7-day moving average of the number of job postings on Indeed Ireland. We indexed each day’s 7-day moving average to the start of that year (1 February 2020 = 100 for 2020 data, and so on), or another date if specified on the chart.
