Today, employers and job seekers face a rapidly shifting recruitment landscape. Changing demographics are transforming the workforce while technological innovation is creating new jobs or altering old ones \u2014 and challenging traditional expectations about how work gets done.<\/span><\/p>\n

In the report Targeting Today’s Job Seeker<\/a><\/em><\/span>, the Indeed Hiring Lab shines a spotlight on Indeed\u2019s rich trove of search and job postings data to explain what the new world of work means for both employers and job seekers alike.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here are some highlights: <\/span><\/p>\n

What Millennials do \u2014 and don\u2019t \u2014 want to do<\/b><\/h5>\n

Millennials are the most educated generation we\u2019ve ever had, and it shows in their job preferences. From Indeed data we can see that occupations requiring a considerable investment in training and education, such as Healthcare Support, Computer & Mathematical and Legal, tend to get an above average share of interest from the youngest generation in our workforce.<\/span><\/p>\n

But there\u2019s a flipside: Blue collar jobs receive considerably less interest from Millennials. Which occupations are most affected by this interest-deficit and how should employers tackle the problem? We investigate in the report.<\/span><\/p>\n

Job search peaks on Monday mornings<\/b><\/h5>\n

We\u2019ve all heard of the Monday morning blues, and it turns out that we can back it up with hard numbers. Job seekers use Indeed to find new opportunities nearly around the clock, but search data shows that the most popular time to search for a job is Monday morning, just before lunchtime.<\/span><\/p>\n

Should employers be concerned? Or could this represent an opportunity? We dig into the numbers and what they mean in the report.<\/span><\/p>\n

Interest in flexible work arrangements is surging<\/b><\/h5>\n

The opportunity to work on a schedule that best suits the job seeker is gaining in importance. Indeed data shows that search terms associated with flexible work arrangements, such as \u201cpart-time\u201d, \u201cremote work\u201d and \u201ctelecommute\u201d are on the rise around the globe. In the US, searches for flexible work arrangements grew by 58% between the start of 2014 and the end of 2016.<\/span><\/p>\n

How should employers respond to this trend, and how could it help boost diversity in the workplace? We explore the possibilities in the report.<\/span><\/p>\n

The unstoppable rise of mobile<\/b><\/h5>\n

Mobile devices now account for the majority of job searches conducted on Indeed. In some occupations, however, that majority is especially overwhelming. For instance, occupations in which job seekers are on their feet and active in their roles, such as Production, Transportation and Construction, have significantly higher mobile utilization rates, sometimes as high as 75%. In the report, we explore in detail why it\u2019s more critical for employers to make their entire hiring process as mobile friendly as possible.<\/span><\/p>\n
