Which job opportunities does the German gaming industry offer and where are these jobs located? To answer this, we use Indeed’s job postings for the period from June 1, 2016 through July 31, 2017.

Here are the highlights:

  • The German gaming industry is concentrated in three cities: Frankfurt, Hamburg and Berlin. In these cities job seekers find 90% of all job postings.
  • There are some significant differences in the type of gaming jobs offered in these three cities. In Frankfurt and Hamburg job postings are dominated by a few large employers while Berlin offers a larger range of videogame makers. Frankfurt has the greatest job opportunities for interns and Hamburg offers more entry-level positions for young professionals. Meanwhile, in Berlin there are more openings for more senior-level positions.
  • Many gaming jobs aren’t technical positions. Videogame firms do not only post jobs for programmers and developers, as you may think, but also offer a variety of non-tech jobs such as in project management, marketing, administration and sales. In fact, nearly half of all gaming-industry job postings are for support roles, while 56% are for roles that are directly part of the game-development process.
